• Time Machine

Mom and Dad just went off to a party and as it is with me, I hate those boring parties where you have to go and put on a fake smile on your face for everybody that comes your way. Finally, I’m free, I have the whole house to myself. Time to eat junk food and watch TV. I turn on the TV, oh great! ‘Phil of the Future’ is on and it’s the episode where Phil and his family fix their time machine and try to return back home to the year 2121. Ugh, the electricity just went off.

I lit up a candle and sat on the veranda. This is the sixth time the electricity went off today. No wonder, our poor generator’s battery is exhausted after all that power cut. Seems like the whole area’s power went off and the clouded moonlit sky just looks beautiful. Hey, here’s a crazy thought, what if I had a time machine? Wow, won’t that be just super awesome. I could go way back to the past and can travel to the high-tech future anytime I want. Let’s see who would I really like to meet? I could go back to the era of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and actually meet him face to face. I could go back to the 15th century and meet the Renaissance man himself – Leonardo da Vinci, and be one of the first ones to witness his exquisite paintings like “The Madonna of the Rocks”, “Mona Lisa”, and of course, “The Last Supper”. Maybe I could go back to the time when the most evil man – Adolf Hitler almost tried to take over the world, and give him a piece of my mind.

I could meet many people but if I could really get hold of a time machine, I would go back to the time when I was six years old and the first person that I’d like to meet would be my Grandmother. I would go back to that memory – that very scene where my Grams told me to put my hands up for prayer and repeat after her. She told me to pray to take her away forever so she could finally rest in peace. I don’t know why she told me to utter such words that should have never been spoken. I was very young then, I didn’t know but as I grew older I realized what I had done. Somehow, I always blamed myself for my Grandmother’s death. If I had a time machine I would go back and correct that fateful mistake. Maybe then my Grams would have been here with me today.

  • A Silent World

I wake up suddenly from a horrific nightmare, it felt as if my soul just traveled through the nightmare land and came back inside when I was about to die. My heart was beating twice as fast than its usual beats. I turned on the bedside lamp and looked at the clock, it was a quarter to five. I was feeling so cramped up in that lonely room, I wanted to get out. I needed fresh air. So, I got out of the room.

As I walked through the dark corridor, I saw ‘Ssshhhh’ plates hanging at almost every door. Everything was so calm and quiet, everyone was fast asleep. I went over to the ship’s deck, I looked around and there wasn’t a single soul in sight. I was standing at the edge of the ship holding the railing and thinking that I took this seven day cruise to get away from the bustling city life, to have goodnight sleeps and have a a good peaceful time but I guess things were not going the way I wanted them to. I wasn’t having good night sleeps everyday, more like nightmare sleeps everyday. But at last, I had found some peace and quiet.

I was watching the tranquil indigo ocean swaying and dancing with the waves in their own silent tunes. I looked up to see the day shading from sombre to sapphire. The ocean water was sparkling a little from the deck light which was still on. A gust of wind arrived and gave me goosebumps all over. I stood there for a while and then turned to head back to my room. Suddenly, I stopped to look at the surrounding. It seemed like the night had said ‘Goodbye’ and welcomed the delightful dawn. I quickly went back to the edge, I closed my eyes. I could feel the fresh morning breeze coming my way and when I opened my eyes, I got a glimpse of the first light of the dawn.

The blushing sun was peeking through the midst of the hills. It was shedding light all around. The calm ocean was glinting with its ivory reflection as it mounted up the landscape. The whole atmosphere was just so beautiful, so serene, and enchanting. I stood there gazing at the majestic sunrise, it felt like I was the only one left in this spellbinding silent world.

  • The Lonely Moon

If the night is where I live
Then everyone around me is a star of the night
But I am the only lonely moon
And I only live by my sun's light
    The stars all come together
Ignoring me like I'm not even there
They tell me I'm different, that I need to change
But I don't want to be just ordinary and all the same
Sometimes I hide behind the clouds with that crescent smile
Pretending everything is great, I'm fine
    Sometimes it hurts so much
When I realize that I can never feel your touch
When I feel so gloomy and need to ease my pain
I veil myself and cry with the rain
I only want to be with you my love
But you're so far away from me
There are some rules from above
I know its not meant to be
The moon and the sun can never be together in the same sky
You belong to the morning my sun and I belong to the night
It's you who gives me the ray of hope from your ever-shining light
So I live each day and dream of holding you tight

  • Rainy Reminiscence

She sat by the windowpane gazing down at the glistening luminescence of the ever-bustling city of New York drenched upon with late night drizzle; the tiny droplets of rain dripped and swayed along the faintly misty sheet of glass crafting vibrant bokehs of the streetlights. ‘She will be loved’ by Maroon 5 played in the backdrop while a hot cup of cocoa rested in her hands steaming its sweet aroma around – the ambiance was all too familiar.

    [Thunder rumbled]

Soaked to the skin, she wandered along the pavements of some lonely avenue downtown staring ahead obliviously. Her eyes were scorched past shedding tears with the pouring rain. Agony suddenly appeared to pale in comparison to the deadening sensation of a thousand frostbites to the heart. And an uncertain agenda or destination seemed to be such trivial issues to dwell on that instant. Why was she forsaken from the least bit of felicity? Questions and more unanswered questions kept swirling seamlessly through her mind.

Suddenly, their paths crossed in the darkness.  A gush of wind rolled in stirring the umbrella enough for his face to come to the fore. For a lone mesmerizing moment, the steeliest blue eyes she had ever witnessed glanced back reflecting her olive-green eyes.

  • Trance

I entered the ballroom wearing a satin red gown
From the stairs I was tracing down
Trying to get a glimpse of him somewhere in the crowd

Suddenly I spotted him waiting at the bottom of the stairs
Wearing a pearl black suit with his sleek chocolate brown hair
I was mesmerized by his charm, he looked so fine
He took my hand, placed a sweet peck and smiled
It was just perfect, God, it felt so right

He escorted me to the centre of the dance floor
His hypnotizing hazel eyes sparkled with a look so sure
Holding my waist he pulled me closer
I held his hand with mine placing another on his shoulder

We swayed, we danced under the crystal chandelier
As the melody of the piano and violins reached our ears
He spun me around giving his spell-binding smile
Oh how I loved those dimples that twinkled next to his eyes

For a moment everything just froze
He looked into my eyes caressing my cheek
Under our own spell we couldn't resist
We fell deep into a captivating kiss
Suddenly, I heard a distant bell ring
Woke up from slumber to realize it was just a dream.
